Watcher

Watcher

Watcher is the solution to navigate the vast world of SVOD and Pay-per-view content.

It assists users in finding the right content, keeping track of the movies and series they have watched, and providing an overview of all the streaming offerings to which they are subscribed.

Design strategy

Building a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that could help users:

Navigate through the catalogs of different platforms and choose movies and series easily and quickly.

Organize your list of movies and series to watch, so you can easily find them when you want to watch them. Keep track of what you have already watched.

Access the movie or series directly on its platform without any additional steps.

User research

Research objectives

01.

Understanding User behaviour across multiple streaming platforms. Investigate how users navigate through the streaming offerings on multiple platforms.

02.

Exploring the User-Content Relationship. Examine how users choose what to watch.

03.

Simplifying content selection and access by unifying touchpoints.

In order to obtain useful insights I conducted the Research phase through interviews and surveys.

Main insights

Note that younger users tend to be more aware of where to find new and popular titles. However, for other content, the search process may be more random, requiring multiple steps to access the content.

When users search for content, they can be confused by the various viewing options offered. The distinction between SVOD and Pay-per-view content is not always clear.

A tracking tool for watched content would be beneficial, especially for series. latforms often consider content as 'watched' even if the user hasn't finished viewing (e.g., falling asleep, stepping away, etc.).

After analyzing the main insights I started to think about the design execution, and to keep in mind the user needs and pain point I designed some personas that helped in the following phase.

Execution

I worked on some user stories that helped me in focusing on all the main user needs and not leave behind any functionality or solution that could help in solving the problems of users.

  • "As a subscriber to multiple platforms, I want to quickly find the right movie without the need for multiple searches."

  • "When I fall asleep, I don't want to waste any more time figuring out where I left off in watching my favorite series."

  • "As a subscriber, I want to discover movies to watch for free, so I don't find out at the last minute that they are for rent."

  • "As a movie enthusiast, I want to track what I've watched and what I want to watch, creating a personalized and organized archive."

And after that I started to design the User flows:
